Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First U.K. Edition/First Printing. Witty, macabre and thought-provoking, these stylish short stories have a unifying theme given little attention in modern fiction - our role in the natural scheme of things; in particular, our attitude toward the other creatures with whom we share this planet.

Octavo, drawings by Alberto Guiraldes, bound in imitation green leather, front and spine panels stamped in gold, top edge stained red. Facsimile reprint of the 1935 Shakespeare Head edition. Epic poem about cowboy life in Argentina. The translator, Walter Owen, was a member of the Inklings writer group in England, and wrote a witchcraft novel, MORE THINGS IN HEAVEN (1947). This copy has been modified by an earlier owner into a de facto bilingual edition by pasting in sections of the original Spanish text next to each translated stanza. Also pasted in is a section of a dust jacket panel and some other related material. With dated ownership signature and business card of previous owner. The rectangles of pasted Spanish text are on acidic paper which has produced offsetting to the adjoining pages, and this addition of material also has puffed up the fore-edge of the binding. A curiosity. (#142671).

First Edition
Octavo, boards. First edition. Fourteen short stories with fantastic motifs, some oriented to the cause of vegetarianism. Wynne-Tyson is known among fantasy cognoscenti as the third King of Redonda, the little rock in the Caribbean whose first self-proclaimed monarch was M. P. Shiel (H. M. Felipe I), a major figure in late 19th and early 20th century supernatural and science fiction. Shiel passed the crown on to author and editor Terence Ian Fytton Armstrong, better known as John Gawsworth (H. M. Juan I), who in turn passed it on to Wynne-Tyson (H. M. Juan II). Wynne-Tyson, whose mother Esmé was also a writer, wrote fiction and non-fiction. Inscribed to John Squires, noted Shiel scholar. A fine copy in fine dust jacket. (#142668).
