Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Don't look here for delicacy and refinement; these women and their works of art speak with brazen attitude. Writer Cullison's preface tells of her attraction to Lowbrow art, a genre she says migrated from the paintings on war planes during World War II to the streets, to the commercial world, to museums. With no fears of being considered "un-ladylike," these women have jumped into the fray. Twenty artists are presented along with color images of their work (250 in all), many full page. Over 250 color images present the artwork of twenty talented contemporary female artists who have claimed the outsider art genre Lowbrow Art, once dominated by men, for their own. In the text, each artist's story is presented along with her work and essays from Chris Pfouts and Anthony Ausgang. "Born from the bold, provocative aircraft nose art splashed across war birds of World War II, Lowbrow Art was carried to the streets by the mechanics and car builders of the 1950s and 1960s. Dripping with color, street-level sensibilities, and flamboyant style, Lowbrow Art was custom built in those middle decades of the twentieth century around racy cars and racier women. Presented here in over 250 full-color images, is the contemporary artwork of twenty ambitious ladies, each a talented artist who has staked a claim in this outsider art genre, once produced solely by and for men. In the text, each artist's story is presented along with her work and essays from Chris Pfouts and Anthony Ausgang. Enjoy and relate to this distinctive style" Will be bubble-wrapped to protect the corners and shipped in a sturdy box to ensure safe delivery.

Book First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition. A book devoted to 19 women Lowbrow artists. 160 pages. First edition (first printing). A fine copy in a fine dust jacket. This copy is inscribed by one of the contributors, Suzanne Chorna Williams, who is really more of an abstract and conceptual artist than a Lowbrow / pinup artist. Laid in to this copy is a postcard from Williams to the recipient of the book. She does suggest her appreciation of the grotesque in art. The postcard is an original photograph by Williams mounted on another postcard. The image is titled, "gopher" and shows a dead gopher on a paper plate. Her note also reads in part, "Was a pleasure to meat your family." The postcard is signed "Suzanne and Bob," Bob being her husband, the artist Robert "Robt." Williams, one of the original Zap Comix artists.
