Condition: Molto buono (Very Good). MAGNUM Images. . Molto buono (Very Good). . Prima edizione americana (First American Edition). . Magnum is the most celebrated group of photojournalists in the world. Since its foundation in 1947, Magnum photographers have been documenting history as it happens, and, inevitably, the most notable figures of our time. HEROES AND ANTI-HEROES is a collection of these portraits – not the posed works of the hagiographer, but, in the best sense of the phrase, portraits from life. With Magnum photographers at the troughs as well as the peaks of contemporary history, this is a collection of both heroes and anti-heroes; of the bad and the hugly; those that are hero to some and arc-villain to others. The book explores portrait photography as an interpretation of heroic charachter and personality; on the street and in the studio, in public and in private, as coded icon and mere others. Rilegato tela, sovracoperta (cloth, dust jacket). Book.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First American edition. Quarto. Bottom corners slightly bumped else fine in fine dustwrapper. Inscribed by John Updike to Herb Yellin. Herb Yellin was the founder and publisher of Lord John Press and the most frequent of Updike's fine press collaborators. He named his press after noting that the list of authors he wanted to publish all shared the same first name, chief among them John Updike, his favorite. *Hub Fans Bid Kid Adieu* became the press's first book in 1977 with 10 more to follow over the next 23 years. Yellin's friendship with Updike grew with each new limited edition benefitting his already enormous Updike collection, with Updike himself contributing copies of new editions of his books - often inscribed. In a 2010 interview with Yellin he noted that Updike ".liked that if anything ever happened to his own collection, he had my collection on the opposite side of the country." A notable association, and a surprisingly uncommon edition to find signed.
