Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Poor. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. 1st Edition. 297 pages (complete). This is Hassel's first novel. It was published in Denmark and then Britain before it was revealed in 1963 that he had actively worked for the Germans during the war with the secret intelligence unit that actively supported the Danish 'Gestapo'. Consequently he found Barcelona more alluring than Copenhagen and moved there in 1964. His novels have recently had a resurgence of interest. This is a first English edition of perhaps his most popular novel (although more 'roman' than 'a clef' as had been claimed). The dustjacket is much worn, torn and marked. It is nonetheless sure and intact. The board covers have shelf dust marks. They are healthy. The papertrims have some light marking. The pages are a little marked, but are otherwise clean, clear, comfortable, certain and thrilling. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
