Book
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Fonteyn: The Making of a Legend; Keith Money; Collins, London, 1973. From the blurb Margot Fonteyn s prodigious career, without parallel in the history of ballet, is here pictured in its entirety for the first time. Never before has so much systematic information been assembled, nor has the majority of the photographs been published previously. This book presents historians with an invaluable record and general readers with a fascinating panorama; it is also a unique tribute to the prima ballerina assoluta. It has taken the author over three years to compile this present definitive record. Every facet of her dancing is covered: her lessons as a child in Ealing; her appearances right up to 1973; her dance partnerships, including those with Robert Helpmann, Michael Somes and Rudolf Nureyev; and influential figures, such as de Valois and Ashton, who appear frequently in these pages. This book shows Fonteyn with no less than thirty-six principal partners in twenty-eight different countries. This very large format book, 320 pages measuring 312mm X 250mm is in near-fine condition in a near-fine dust jacket that is now enclosed in a protective mylar wrap. There is a remainder mark on the bottom of the pages. This large and heavy book may require additional postage.

Book First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Excellent large format hardcover, signed by Fonteyn to title page, very bold in biro."To Florrie Sinclair, my very best wishes always, Margot Fonteyn Arias". There is a Singapore connection with this book also. Florrie has re-dedicated the copy to her Friends Frances and Vernon, and taped onto the title page is a magazine photo of Vernon Martinus interviewing Fonteyn in Singapore. Martinus was a ballet choreographer and with Frances Poh co-founded the Singapore Ballet Academy in 1958. The original owner Florrie Sinclair was a teacher at the Singapore Ballet Academy. A few foxing freckles on the title page, the rest is clean, boards free of wear or fade. DJ tight and bright, minor handling wear at spine ends, sunfade around spine panel, unclipped. Florrie Sinclair signed and dated to flyleaf. Interesting also that this book made its way somehow back to the orginal owner retired in Orkney, from whose collection it came to us. A cherished book indeed. Size: Folio. Signed by Author.
