First edition. First edition, second state. The first issue was riddled with typographical errors and it is believed that only 25 copies survived the publisher's subsequent recall. 8vo. Signed by the author on the front fly leaf. Decorated cloth, xv [3], 244 pp., introduction, foreword, numerous illustrations by H. D. Bugbee, appendix, vocabulary, bibliography. Herd 1330 says, "The first printing of this book was quickly withdrawn by the publishers on account of typographical errors and omissions. The "true" first printing differs from this commonly accepted "first edition" finally issued in that it does not contain the introduction by John McCarty, the "contents" precedes the"foreword," it does not include the "list of illustrations," and it does not have the Roman numerals. It also has a different binding and the name "Newbury" was spelled "Newberry." About 25 copies were issued before errors were discovered. The edition was destroyed, and the book was reprinted in an edition of 1000 copies, followed later by another printing of 2000." The story of the Texas Panhandle. Cattle, Indians, buffalo hunters, etc. Fine in dust jacket with light wear to the spine ends and corners.
