Leather Bound. Good: Shows significant indications of use. The marbled front free endpaper has been removed. Former owner's name and date loosely scrawled at the page following and neatly rubber-stamped at the upper title page; we have to surmise that there was a pasted-on label at the upper backstrip, which is no longer present, but the title is still present from the impression in the leather beneath it. Gilt embossed designs at the backstrip are still present, if somewhat rubbed; all the edges of the leather are moderately rubbed, with some loss to the head of the backstrip. The underlying boards are exposed in spots, mainly at the corner tips. The binding is square and remains secure; the text is clean. Overall, remains a sturdy, attractive copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, but showing some wear, and with a clean text. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8.9 x 6 x 1.5 inches). 501 pages. Illustrated with duotone decorations and numerous tissue covered full-page duotone lithographs by Thomas Nast. Language: English. Weight: 2 pounds, 3.2 ounces. All Edges Marbled. First Edition (1869); probable later printing (1970). Hardback: Quarter Leather and Corners with Marbled Panels. First Edition (1869); probable later printing (1970).
