Von einem eher schwerblütigen Spätimpressionismus herkommend, suchte die Künstlerin immer mehr die Erfassung von Gedanken- oder Erinnerungsbildern und wollte zum Ausdruck bringen, «was sie noch nie gesehen hat». Als um 1970 herum eine neue Generation von Kunstschaffenden an die Öffentlichkeit trat, rückte Ilse Weber gleichzeitig mit Künstlerinnen wie Meret Oppenheim unvermittelt ins Zentrum aktueller künstlerischer Diskurse. Es entstand ein einzigartiges Spätwerk, in dem sie sich von jedem Vorbild löste und sich einer poetischen Subjektivität zuwandte. Neben der Ölmalerei gewann die Zeichnung grosse Bedeutung in ihrem Schaffen. Diese erste Monografie über Ilse Weber erscheint anlässlich einer Ausstellung im Bündner Kunstmuseum, der erst zweiten Einzelausstellung der Künstlerin in einem Museum nach einer Präsentation im Kunsthaus Zürich 1992.
