Gebundene Ausgabe. Condition: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. 300 Seiten Frisches und sauberes Hardcover-Exemplar. "Opus Posthumous completes the publication in book form of all of Wallace Steven's writing which anyone but a researching student will care to read. Taken, that is, with The Collected Poems of Wallace Stevens and the prose collected in The Necessary Angel, this volume completes the public canon of one of the significant and enduring writers of twentieth-century America. The poems, plays, and prose writings in Opus Posthumous cover theentire span of Stevens's career. About one third fo this material appears in this volume for the first time. All six of the poems included here which were printed in earlier Stevens books were omitted from The Collected Poems. The rest of this writing - poems, plays, and prose - was found by Samuel French Morse scattered through the magazinues, anthologies, and miscellanies to which Stevens contributed generously and often. Thinking, perhaps of future critical works and theses, Mr. Morse writes: "The time for printing such material as remains in manuscript will undoubtedly come. The present volume, however, serves a different purpose: it adds to the total body of the published work whateve ris intrinsically intersting, from the real beginning to the end." Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First UK Edition. First impression of the first UK edition of this posthumous collection. The book first appeared in the USA, published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1957. Edited, with an Introduction, by Samuel French Morse. ***Very good in blue cloth covered boards with gilt titles and borders to the spine. The gilt is still nice and bright. The boards are clean, with just some light marks at the bottom of the front board. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. Corners sharp. Contents nice and clean, with no inscriptions. The first couple of leaves lightly creased and the first few pages just slightly creased at the top corner. ***In a good only original dustwrapper, which retains the publisher's original printed price of 36s net. The dustwrapper is fairly complete, but there is some significant loss and some light staining at the tail of the spine and some loss also at the head of the spine. There is general edge wear, creasing, small marks [including light sticker residue on the front panel] and some fading to the dustwrapper [please see scans]. ***222 mm x 145 mm. 301 pages including 'A Note on the Dates' at the back of the book. ***Contents: Preface, Introduction, Poems, Plays, Adagia, Prose. ***'Opus Posthumous completes the publication in book form of all Wallace Stevens' poetry which anyone but a research student will care to read. These writings cover the entire span of Stevens' career. About one-third of this material appears in this volume for the first time, and the poems included here which were printed in earlier Stevens books were omitted from the "Collected Poems". The rest of the writing was found scattered through the magazines, anthologies and miscellanies to which Stevens contributed generously and often. Samuel French Morse has supplied an Introduction that should help to dispel the miasma of ill-informed conjecture which has already risen about the solid but somehow mysterious figure of Wallace Stevens.' [Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper] ***First impression of the first UK edition of this posthumous collection of the work of Wallace Stevens, published in the UK in 1959. Copies in the original dustwrapper are now quite uncommon. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
