woodcut vignette on title (a large wig surrounding a small mannekin head and other objects), some browning and spotting, penultimate leaf with a ragged tear at the top, no loss, verso repaired with Japanese tissue (over the text), pp. 88, 8vo, slightly later wrappers made of printer's waste. Marchand, a lawyer, suffered from Voltairomania. He produced a number of parodies, this being one of them. The play is prefixed by a letter addressed to Voltaire, begging him to cast an eye over it. Barbier attributes to Marchand; Hoefer cites Barbier and adds: cette pièce est due, suivant l'abbé de La Porte, à la collaboration de Meyzieu et de Ducoin. The lower wrapper bears the imprint of La Feuille Villageoise, rue du Théâtre de l'Égalité: Théâtre de l'Égalité was the name bestowed upon l'Odéon in 1794.
