In later leather with marbled paper over boards; functionally rebacked in 19th century buckram tape with a window exposing an early leather title label on the spine. Binding is rubbed and worn but solid; the buckram spine is effective and not as unattractive as it might be; library bookplate on the front pastedown; pocket in the rear; a few other notations throughout. Ex - Baptist Theological College of Scotland / Baptist Union Library Copy, with their tickets of the front pastedown, no internal stamps. Title page printed in red and black is lightly dusty and lightly browned, the text is clean, crisp and occasionally lightly browned and dusty on the leaf edges. Half calf, heavily worn, over marbled paper backed boards, the spine with five raised bands, calf title label, marbled paper rubbed and torn, corners bumped. Textually an acceptable good plus copy, the binding is sound but in need of refurbishment , the book is priced to reflect this. "Leshon limudim lingua eruditorum; sive Methodica institutio linguæ sanctæ" (Wing B6415A) has separate dated title page, pagination and register; the new pagination begins on "(B1)"; first two words of title are in Hebrew characters. This edition was apparently not published separately and is found as the final section of both Wing B6421 and B6422 (which are imprint variants of each other). "Brevis et perspicua institutio linguæ Chaldaicæ" (part 2, p. [35]-46) has divisional title .A variant of the edition with "Gul. Morden" in imprint in place of "Edm. Beechinoe". "Leshon limudim lingua eruditorum" identified as Wing B6415A on UMI microfilm "Early English books, 1641-1700" reel 1647. Victorinus Bythner ( 1605??1670?) was a Polish Hebraist; native of Poland; taught Hebrew at Oxford, 1635 -1643. He practised medicine in Cornwall, and published treatises on Hebrew Grammar. Commence ensuit : Index Libri Salmorum, 160 pages numérotées. Enfin, en dernière partie, avec son frontispice : Institutio Methodica Linguae Sactae, 96 pages et daté 1687. Publication à Tiguri, nom latin pour Zürich (suisse). Couverture rigide, habillée plein cuir, d'époque, brun. Dos à 5 nerfs, décorum doré, titre de l'ouvrage. Etat : assez bon. Etat d'ancienneté, 33 décennies. Couverture : perte de matière entre le dos et le premier plat, en haut sur environ 6 cm. Egalement, tout en haut du dos, rupture de bordure. Sur le 4ème plat, perte de cuir, environ 1 cm2, amorce de rupture de mors en haut avec le dos. Néanmoins la reliure est restée solide. Intérieur : bien lisible, taches, ombres irrégulièrement réparties au long des pages. Quelques 35 pages avec une perforation sur le bas, laissée par un couteau ou autre. 16.6 x 10.5 x 5 cm 600g.

Hardcover. Condition: USED_VERYGOOD. Title proper, LESHON LIMUDIM, is romanized from Hebrew. Two phrases in contents, "to technikon" and "to historikon", are romanized from the Greek. [2], [16], 135 pages plus folding table between page 14 and 15. The folding plate, 20 x 16 cm., is a table printed in black and red showing "De verbo paradigma explicitum conjugationum Hebraicarum." This is a revised version of a grammar of Hebrew, with remarks on Chaldean, which had first been published in 1638. Bythner was a native of Poland. He became a member of Oxford University about 1635, but removed to Cambridge at the start of the Civil War; in 1651 he again appears at Oxford, but about 1664 he retired to Cornwall, where he practices medicine. "Bythner's grammatical works, though written in curiously faulty Latin, are models of lucid and compact arrangement, and continued long in use." -- DNB. Front board detached. Leather. Condition: Very Good. None (illustrator). First edition. Two very scarce works on the grammatical lexicon of the Hebrew psalter. 'Lyra Prophetica' is a first edition, and is one of Bythner's major works. It was not translated into English until 1836. Bound to the rear is a 1650 copy of 'Lingua Eruditorum' which was first issued in 1638. This work being to the rear isas called for. Part II has a separate title page, also dated 1650, and has separate pagination and register, with the new pagination starting on B1.The Hebrew text is interspersed with Latin commentary.There are 352 pages to the first work, with page 352 misnumbered 342 as called for.The errata leaf, which is usually G4 of the second work, has been trimmed down and pasted to the verso of G3.Both works are written by VictorBythner, a Polish Hebraist, grammarian and university teacher in England.ESTC reference no: R230929. In a later full calf binding. Externally, generally smart with rubbing to the head and tail of spine and to the extremities. Bumping to the extremities. A few light marks to the boards. Title is laid down, on a new sheet. Bookplate to the front pastedown, 'Fide et Fortitudine'. Prior owner's inscription to the title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright. Light tidemark to the top half of many leaves throughout. Very Good. book.
