Condition: Good. This is the first ed. in cloth in two volumes, 1906, by Brentano's, of the Symington translation from Italian to English; gilt ornamentation on black boards and spine (somewhat faded) is Art Nouveau rather than Art Deco as in the 1929 ed.; wonderful full-page engravings within with tissue guards; deckle edges;TEG. The front gutter in Vol. I is cracked and there is small stain on lower inside edges of t.p. and first tissue guard. Vol. II appears not to have been read and is flawless withing. Neither volume has suffered much shelf wear--a bit of rubbing at crowns and feet of spines, slight bumping of corners.

Volume I has a small area of surface paper loss on front board; a 1" split in the leather at the bottom of the front hinge and at the top of the rear hinge; some light waviness to fore-edge of endpapers. Volume II has a 1 1/2" split in the leather at the top of the rear hinge; a few tiny dents on the fore-edge of the text block. Not Signed.
