senza rilegatura. Condition: ottimo. Magnifica incisione di Pietro Monaco tratta dal dipinto di Gianbattista Tiepolo nella chiesa veneziana di Sant Alvise nel sestiere di Cannaregio. L opera Salita di Cristo al Monte Calvario, realizzata in piena maturità dell artista, appartiene a un trittico (1737-1740) raffigurante scene della Passione di Cristo, commissionato dal nobiluomo Alvise Cornaro. Nella Salita al Calvario di Pietro Monaco, Cristo è raffigurato al centro, dopo essere caduto sotto il peso croce, sollevata a fatica dai due sgherri, in una posa che ne accentua l enfasi drammatica. A questo contribuiscono l affastellarsi di figure in un caotico e variegato corteo, in cui si riconoscono Santa Veronica in primo piano a destra e la Vergine in secondo piano al centro. Successivamente l occhio viene condotto dalla folla, distribuita in ordine sparso e assimmetrico, verso il monte ove già si vedono le altre due croci. Foglio settecentesco in eccellente stato di conservazione e ottimamente inchiostrato. Dal punto di vista compositivo la scena, chiaramente ispirata alla maniera cinquecentesca, è caratterizzata da un grande gioco di contrasti. Nel 1732 Pietro Monaco appare già come un incisore affermato. Nel 1739 mandò alle stampe le prime incisioni che sarebbero poi state riunite nella Raccolta di centododici stampe di Pitture della storia sacra, la sua opera più famosa. Nel 1763 diede alle stampe l edizione definitiva della Raccolta, con riproduzioni non solo di dipinti antichi, ma anche contemporanei come quelli di Giovanni Battista Piazzetta, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Sebastiano Ricci, Giovanni Battista Pittoni e Angelo Trevisani. Originale anche l ordinamento delle opere, basato sulla data di realizzazione dell incisione e non sul racconto biblico. Cornice artigianale atelier Bruno Rizzato, Venezia.
