Internally unmarked; solidly bound. A little musty. Unabridged republication of the (1922) limited edition. "This is the basic book about Anna Pavlova (1881-1939) -- her technique, her roles, her travels, and the overwhelming ballet fervor she created with such roles as the Dying Swan and Butterfly, Les Sylphides and Le Pavillon d'Armide, the Russian Dances, Bacchanal and many others. An appreciative text by |V. Svetloff discusses the many sides of Pavlova and tells of the response she received from audiences and critics in England, North and South America, Europe, Africa and the Orient. Also included are 75 photographs and drawings -- eight in full-color -- comprising one of the finest tributes to the great ballerina. Drawings, paintings, costume and stage designs, and sculptures by Léon Bakst, Joseph Urban, Malvina Hoffman, Troubetzkoy, Aimé Stevens, S. Soudeikine, and other contemporary artists and designers, and photographs of Pavlova in all of her major roles, show the many sides of Pavlova's art and contribute to the reader's understanding of the effect which she had on the artistic world of the time."
