Il tema del pittore nello studio si coniuga con quello della malinconia, della meditazione. E, anche, evidentemente con il pensiero della morte. È la posizione leopardiana dell Infinito. La penombra della sera contribuisce a rendere intenso e suggestivo il dipinto. Vittorio Sgarbi Alberto Sughi torna a Cesena, nella sua Cesena, con una grande antologica che ripercorre le tappe salienti della sua lunga e intensa carriera. Il catalogo, creato in occasione della mostra, raccoglie oltre sessanta dipinti e abbraccia quasi mezzo secolo del lavoro dell artista. Le prime opere risalgono al 1958: l Italia sta attraversando il suo effimero boom economico , ma l occhio attento dell artista coglie fra le pieghe di quella promessa di benessere le smagliature di un angoscia insopprimibile, che attanaglia l uomo urbano, congelandolo in una fissità immateriale. Il contesto urbano, da luogo di socializzazione, diviene lo spazio in cui si misura l effettiva impossibilità di comunicazione interpersonale. E se in quelle prime prove lo sfondo di quella desolata solitudine interiore è rappresentato dalla città, nella fase successiva Sughi sposta la sua indagine all interno delle case. Ma anche qui è inutile cercare una vita interiore: domina la non autenticità dell essere e i personaggi che si muovono sulla tela appaiono chiusi per sempre in una gabbia impenetrabile di freddi egoismi. Una visione tragica, culminante nel celebre ciclo della Cena (1975-1976). Tra le opere più vicine nel tempo ricordiamo la vibrante serie La sera o della riflessione (in corso dal 1985) al centro della scena c è, ancora una volta, un uomo solo; ma la sua solitudine appare meno angosciante: l impressione è che dopo un cammino faticoso l uomo di Sughi abbia trovato, se non un intima armonia, una pacificazione con il mondo.
