Winfield, pseudonym of Edward Stratemeyer. He founded many of the series of adolescent literature of that era; in the case of the Rover Boys, Stratemeyer wrote all the titles in this series himself. Illustrated with a fine frontis and three other plates. Copyright 1904 by the Mershon Company, New York; this is a later edition from Grosset & Dunlap, New York. Presumed Second Edition. No ISBN. Red/black decorated hard boards, 7 5/8" x " x 5 1/8" x 263 clean pages of teen mystery. Probably a late 1920s emission. This is volume 8 in the Rover Boys series. Clean, tight, firm, moderate wear, along the spine-edges and leading corners. There is no dust jacket. Good condition. Darkening to the leading edges of the boards after nearly a Century. A trifle of corner curling at the bottom leading. No looseness, No mustiness, No smoke smell. A Christmas giftatory, 1930, ffep, No other markings. No bookplates, NOT Ex-Library, NOT Remainder-marked. A marvelous old find.
