Gorgeous soft leather traycase is dark blue with gilt lettering and embellishments. Without dust wrapper produced by publisher after original publication. A benchmark in the literary career of Stephen King and his third published novel following Carrie and 'Salem's Lot. The Shining stands as a cultural icon of modern horror, a searing study of a family torn apart, and a nightmarish glimpse into the dark recesses of human weakness and dementia. The Overlook Hotel claimed the most beautiful setting of any resort in the world, but the Torrance family saw much more than its splendor. Danny, blessed - or cursed - with a shining, precognitive gift saw visions hideously beyond the comprehension of a small boy. For Jack, Wendy, and their young son it is a place where past horrors come to life. And where those gifted with the shining do battle with the darkest evils. This tale of a troubled man hired to care for a remote mountain resort over the winter, slowly but steadily unfolds as secrets from the hotel's past are revealed, and the hotel itself attempts to claim the very souls of the Torrance family. "YOU'RE THE CARETAKER, SIR. YOU'VE ALWAYS BEEN THE CARETAKER. I SHOULD KNOW, SIR. I'VE ALWAYS BEEN HERE. " Rare tangible. Printed in the U.S.A. Insured post. The fact is that The Shining is a masterwork, a bold product of an original vision, a novel of astonishing passion, urgency, tenderness, understanding, and invention In its uniting of an almost bruising literary power, a deep sensitivity to individual experience, and its operatic convictions, it is a very significant work of art" (Peter Straub). Made into the 1980 movie directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Jack Nicolson and Shelley Duvall; it was later made into a 1997 TV mini-series starring Steven Weber and Rebecca De Mornay and with a cameo appearance by King himself. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Signed by Author.

THE SHINING. When The Shining was first published in 1977, it left an immediate and indelible impression. At once terrifying and intensely human, it set the standard for the modern horror novel, and remains as vital and affecting today as it was thirty-five years ago. The story The Shining tells has assumed a permanent place in American popular culture. It is, first of all, the story of a family: Jack and Wendy Torrance and their extraordinarily gifted son, Danny. The Torrances are a family in crisis. They have come to the Overlook Hotel, a deluxe resort set in an isolated corner of the Colorado Rockies, to serve as winter caretakers and to recover from a series of bruising personal defeats. But, as they soon discover, the Overlook is more than a hotel. It is a malign, voracious entity with an extravagantly violent history, and it is determined to absorb the Torrance family Danny in particular into its dark heart. STEPHEN KING.
