Book
No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Marvin W. Schwartz, Photographer (illustrator). A portfolio of photographs in color that cover various natural wonders, as well as man-made cultural and historical monuments, found on the island of Puerto Rico that are under the protection of The Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico. Some photographs are only a single page with an explanation on the reverse; others provide more details in a four-page brochure that has a photo on the front cover and details about what the photo shows plus additional photos. All of the photographs and brochures fit neatly into a folded portfolio with a window on the front that highlights a sunset shown on the front cover of the introductory brochure. Coordinated by Jane Clark Chermayeff Associates. Appears to be a publication to raise awareness and funds for the Trust. Not dated, but probably from the 1990's. Measures 9.25" x 9.25" with 17 'photographs/brochures' plus a map. All texts in English. Minor smudge marks and scuffing on portfolio covers, but otherwise in excellent condition with no other marks of any kind. SALE PRICE.

Pamphlet. Condition: Good. The format is approximately 4 inches by 9.25 inches. 46, [2] pages. Decorative front cover. 36 black and white illustrations. Maps. New York City began nearly 400 years ago as a Dutch trading post on the southern tip of Manhattan Island. Amid the towing skyscrapers of Manhattan's financial district are also a host of historic buildings and locales that recall the city's turbulent colonial origins. This handy, informative guide enables the user to discover the historic charm of Lower Manhattan and recall the heritage embodied in such landmarks as Trinity Church, Bowling Green, Federal Hall Memorial, Wall Street, Battery Park, Faunces Tavern, Castle Clinton, U.S. Custom House, India House, and the New York Stock Exchange. Guide to New York walking from the Battery to Wall Street and describing the history of the buildings at Hanover Square, Battery Park, State Street, and more. Mary J. Shapiro is author of numerous books about New York City and its most famous landmarks, including the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. Her book, How They Built the Statue of Liberty, was translated and published in Spanish, French, and Japanese editions. She also wrote the exhibition script for the highly acclaimed Ellis Island Immigration Museum in New York. As an interpretive planner, she helped develop exhibitions for the National World War I Museum in Kansas City, Missouri, and the William J. Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas. The walking guide is divided into 5 easily reached adjacent areas which an overall map shows how they are linked up. Lower Manhattan, also known as Downtown Manhattan or Downtown New York, is the southernmost part of Manhattan, the central borough for business and culture. The neighborhood is the historical birthplace and serves as the seat of government of New York City. Because there are no municipally defined boundaries for the neighborhood, a precise population cannot be quoted, but several sources have suggested that it was one of the fastest-growing locations in New York City between 2010 and 2020, related to the influx of young adults and significant development of new housing units. Despite various definitions of Lower Manhattan, they generally include the area on Manhattan Island delineated to the north by 14th Street, to the west by the Hudson River, to the east by the East River, and to the south by New York Harbor. The Lower Manhattan business district, known as the Financial District or Wall Street, is a world-leading global center for finance, fintech, and other commerce, housing Wall Street, the New York Stock Exchange, and Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and other major financial institutions. Lower Manhattan is home to many of New York City's most iconic buildings, including One World Trade Center, the tallest skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere. First Edition [stated], presumed first printing.
