Book
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Illustrated Edition. This is a beautifully illustrated music book, "The Chelsea Song Book." Circa 1920's (there is no date of publication stated); Minton, Balch and Company; New York. The book features 20 songs in all, each with a wonderful illustration in color by Juliet Wigan. From the introduction: "These songs have been collected, and in many instances newly arranged for the piano, by Charles Kennedy Scott. The drawings are by Juliet Wigan. The script of the music has been especially designed and written by Paul Woodroffe. The calligraphy is by Margaret Shipton." The book is larger in size - it measures 12 1/2" tall x 10" wide. Condition: Light soiling to the covers. The spine has a 3" cloth tear at the center, a cloth tear at the bottom edge, and a 1/2" strip missing at the top edge. Light cover corner wear. Shelf wear along the outer edge of the back cover. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Nice interior - the pages are mostly clean with only a few random, light smudges found, and some very light foxing and tanning to the end papers and pastedowns. Overall the book is in Good condition.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 4to 11" - 13" tall; 52 pages; New York, Minton Balch and Company; [circa 1925-27]. Large format in original color pictorial paper covered boards. Very handsomely designed, highly stylized collection of English folk music and ballads. Juliet Wigan's five-color, stylized plates from lithography are very eye catching. There are about 20 full and half page plates. Wonderful calligraphic font; songs include verses in print along with sheet music. Soundly bound with very neat contents. Spine lettered green cloth is a bit faded and a touch frayed at spine ends but with titles remaining legible. Light shelf soiling to paper covered boards and light rubbing to corners. Rather well preserved example and uncommon thus. VG to VG+ . Oversize book will require additional charges for expedited or international shipping.
