Der Hortus Eystettensis, verfasst von dem Apotheker, Botaniker, Illustrator und Verleger Basilius Besler aus Nürnberg (1561-1629) war ein großformatiges Prachtwerk das in 2 oder 3 Foliobänden erstmals 1613 erschienen ist. Besler arbeitete ca. 7 Jahre an dem Buch und stellte um die 12 Graveure ein, die auf 367 Platten mit über 1000 Botanischen Motiven gravierten. Der Auftraggeber für dieses Werk war Johann Conrad von Gemmingen, Fürstbischof von Eichstätt.
