"Not an aeroplane could fly, not a tank could move, not a ship could sail, not an army could operate, the war could not have been fought - without electric cables and wires. Mechanised warfare demands a nerve system, a bloodstream as vital and instantaneous in its responses as the nerves and the circulation of the human body. Electric cables are this bloodstream, those nerves.".
