The first thus edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Bookplate of Desmond Morris to the front paste down. Illustrated with four plates. Collated, complete. Joseph-Marie Degérando or de Gérando (1772-1842) was one of the precursors of anthropology and wrote one of the first ethnographic survey guides, published in 1800 by the Société des Observateurs de l'Homme. He laid down the principles of 'participant observation' which is now widely used in ethnography. This work was written for members of the Société des Observateurs de l'Homme for their expedition to Australia. This edition was translated by F. C. T. Moore, with a preface by E. E. Evans-Pritchard. From the library of Desmond Morris, a zoologist best known for his 1967 sociobiological work "The Naked Ape". Alongside achieving great acclaim as a zoologist, Morris was also known for being an ethnologist and surrealist painter, and for popular television programmes, including "Zoo Time". In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is very bright and smart. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean.
