Leather Bound. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jackets. Illustrations De Gambard, Marold, Cosconi, et Rossi (illustrator). Petite Collection Guillaume. Two small volumes, leather-bound, from the "Petite Collection Guillaume." "Illustrations de Gambard et Marold," in the case of Paul et Virginie, while Manon credits "Illustrations de Cosconi, Marold, et Rossi." Fine steel-plate engravings. Tissue still in place over both frontispieces. These charming volumes are 7.5 X 13.5 cm (3 X 5 1/4 inches.) We'll grade "Paul et Virginie" very good minus with the gilt spine titles still at 90 percent; Manon "good plus" with chipping & fraying to the upper right corner of the front cover and the gilt spine titles worn to about 70 percent. Top edges gilt to both. We had assumed the striking red-white-and-blue "peacock tail" patterned glossy pastedowns and endpapers were printed to simulate a marbled effect, but we can find no "dot" even under 10X magnification, and so conclude these marbled papers are "the real thing." Note small size of these two matching volumes. Pages and covers still supple, but interior page margins are substantial, which means the type here is quite small; presumably meant for young & healthy eyes. Both books in original French language. Texte entier en français, naturellement. Vittorio de Sica and Alida Valli starred in the 1940 film of "Manon Lescaut." Henri-Georges Clouzot directed the 1949 version with Michel Auclair and Cécile Aubry, and Jean Aurel directed "Manon 70" (1968), with Catherine Deneuve and Sami Frey. 320 pp and 228 pp, respectively. Price is for the matched pair. Le type est assez petit. Le prix est pour la paire appariée, relié en cuir. Reduced from $17.
