Typed Letter Signed (on paper printed with the address 'The Palace, Norwich' and dated 20th Nov., 1941) from the Bishop of Norwich (Bertram Pollock) to one Mr. Scott-Moncrieff, in which the Bishop refers to 'my little article-sermonette in the Sunday Times' and the importance of 'Work coming before Word', and mentions the house purchased from Scott-Moncrieff as being 'too near the coast'. One leaf, typed full to recto; closing greeting/signature in black ink. Leaf has one vertical/one horizontal fold; paper slightly tanned, with small tears/chips to edges, but type/signature quite fresh/clear. The three items are good, on aged paper. Letter One: Undated. Signed 'B Pollock'. 4to, 1 p. In pencil. Headed 'please forgive stationery'. On reverse is a cancelled carbon page of autobiographical typescript. He is travelling to London and asks for the addresses of a couple of doctors. 'I have had very slight bleeding from the prostate, but this has become much greater in the last 24 hours. Pulse and temperature quite normal, some constipation, no pain. I dont know whether my walks should be reduced'. Letter Two: Dated 26 August 1943. From the Grand Eastern Hotel, on cancelled letterhead of the Athenaeum in Pall Mall. Unsigned. 12mo, 3 pp. Reports on his condition, and thanks Noon for his consultation and advice. He hopes to stay with his wife at her London flat, and to 'speak on Monday at the memorial service in the City to my cousin Adrian - the City Chamberlain, about whose death The Times wrote very charmingly'. Letter Three: 12 October 1943; Gissing Rectory, on cancelled letterhead of Bracon Lodge, Braconash, Norwich. Signed 'B P. 12mo, 1 p.' Written within five days of his death. Reporting on his condition.
