The book is bound with badly faded orange paper covered boards with a colour picture of a circus performer riding on the elephant pasted on the front board. There is a crease down the centre of theboard. The paper on the spine has split in places and is generally rather worn, although intact overall; the contents binding is slack although the sewing remains sound; gift inscription (not authorial) to top of title page; slight damage to front and rear paste downs inside covers; the text and illustrations are clean; ; Ameliaranne Series; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.

An uncommon new edition. In the original paper covered pictorial boards. With illustrated paste-downs, an illustrated title page and 29 colour plates throughout. Collated complete. The Ameliaranne series was a popular children's book series published between 1920 and 1950. Unlike other children's series, it featured eight different authors but one consistent illustrator, Susan Beatrice Pearse. The series follows a young girl, Ameliaranne Stiggins, as she tackles new and challenging situations. This work was the fifth in the series, and was written by Margaret Gilmour. With the previous owner's gift inscription to the title page, dated 1954. In the original pictorial paper covered boards. Externally, smart with some shelf wear to the edges. A few marks to the boards. Spine is faded. Hinges strained but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Offsetting and spotting to the title page and final page. Pages throughout are bright and clean with only a few scattered spots. Previous owner's gift inscription to the title page. A small closed tear to one of the plates. Very Good. book.
