Durch eine detaillierte Betrachtung der Forschungslage, stilistischen Merkmale und ikonographischen Inhalte, sowie der Einbettung des Werks in den Kontext der rheinischen und europäischen Skulptur jener Epoche, unternimmt die Arbeit den Versuch, das Cäcilientympanon in seiner künstlerischen und historischen Bedeutung neu zu bewerten.Im Zentrum der Untersuchung steht die detaillierte Beschreibung und Interpretation des Tympanons, wobei insbesondere auf die Darstellung der hl. Cäcilia und ihrer Begleiter, des hl. Valerianus und des hl. Tiburtius, eingegangen wird. Die Arbeit beleuchtet die komplexen Beziehungen zwischen den dargestellten Figuren und dem Betrachter, die durch die Gestaltung und Anordnung der Reliefs hervorgerufen werden. Ebenso wird die symbolische Bedeutung der himmlischen Krönung Cäciliens, als zentrales Motiv des Tympanons, innerhalb der christlichen Ikonographie erörtert.Darüber hinaus werden die künstlerischen Einflüsse und technischen Aspekte der Skulptur untersucht, um die stilistische Einordnung des Werks innerhalb der rheinischen Skulptur des 12. Jahrhunderts zu präzisieren.
