No other marks to contents. Some light occasional dust soiling to contents, Later not recent half calf marbled boards rubbing to edges and corners 5 cm crack to lower rea spine edge ,head of spine chipped lacking title label,The binding is tight a good copy.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Hardback 1st ed in this format printed for the author 1793-1795 xiii, 547 pp Illustrated with 2 fold out plates, a fold out map and a frontispiece. Bound in calf and rebacked some time ago the book is in very good condition. The corners are worn and there is some old tape residue on pages 544 to 547. One of the plates has not been folded very well and the map has a couple of closed tears which have been repaired with archival tape. There is some foxing but most of the pages are nice and clean.

First edition in this format, 1795. 4to. xiii, 547 [3]pp. Engraved frontispiece of The Abbey together with fold-out coloured map of the County (preceding p1) and two fold-out ground plans (following p234 being the ground plan at the time of Henry III and following p529 being the ground plan at the time of Henry VI). Original calf boards, rebacked with original spine laid-on, contrasting title panel and gilt decoration. Gilt border decoration to boards. Marbled end papers. Copy of May 1821 census form for St Albans pasted onto front fly leaf. Good. Boards rubbed and corners worn. Professional repairs to boards and spine preserving as much of the original as possible and making for a very soundly bound volume. Some damp staining to upper quadrant of rear pages. Light and sporadic spotting throughout. Ink inscription to ffep. A few neat notes, mainly to margins with some to text. Fold-out County map clean and bright but with some splits at folds - right hand vertical fold completely separated. Book.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Illustrated with a large hand coloured map of Hertfordshire, a Buck view of the monastery. Other plates, etc. (illustrator). 1st Edition. First edition 1793. Engraved plates and a hand coloured map throughout. Bound in at the end and properly mount on sheets to match the size of the main book is a copy of Norden's Description of Hartfordshire, with a map. Also bound in is a copy of Amwell : A Descriptive Poem, second edition, 1776, but this lacks at least the last page, 22 pages only. Also bound in at the front is a Buck view of the Abbey & an actual manuscript account of St. Albans Abbey which runs to 8 pages. . Also mounted in at the front of the book is a document presented to Thomas Baskerfield, swearing him in as Burgess Gratis and signed by John Boys. It is signed by John Boys and has a watercolour of his coat of arms and a watercolour of the Abbey. On a vellum document. 1803. A note in the front of the books says that the book was bought at a sale in 1817. The book has Baskerfield, Redbourn, written on the verso of the front free endpaper. The book has pencil notes in some places and has some extra illustration mounted throughout. The books lacks the rear cover which may have had the last pages of the Amwell poem attached to it. Front cover is detached. The spine and front cover is a near contemporary full leather binding, the spine has raised bands and gilt decorations in the compartments. Spine still attached. Only a fair copy externally. Contents generally nice and clean. A unique and fascinating extra illustrated copy with an interesting ownership. 547 p. Book.
