HARDCOVER. Condition: New. New. Thomas Dunne Books, 2013. Book Condition: NEW. This unique collection includes seminal pieces from Hunter S. Thompson and Robert Pirsig. Melissa Holbrook Pierson and Thomas McGuane offer probing reflections on the relationship between rider and machine. Roald Dahl waxes poetic on the second-hand Ariel 500cc he bought as a sixteen-year-old. There are classic dispatches from the road including T. E. Lawrence's travels on his Brough Superior, Alberto Granado's storied rides with Che Guevara, and Theresa Wallach's overland journey with Florence Blenkiron from London to Cape Town. This anthology also offers hidden gems, such as Mike Carter's midlife meditation "Uneasy Rider" and Jim Perrin's "Travels with a Harley." Facing more than just the elements of the road, these riders simultaneously take physical and emotional journeys, surrendering to the mental release a bike brings. Danger lurks around every bend, but above all is the rider's desire for speed, the constant craving to go faster and further than one has ever gone before. . 2013. HARDCOVER.

Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Book condition is near fine. Soft cover. No dust jacket. Ex-library copy. Front and back cover of book boards are clean except reference number on spine and a barcode on front right corner. Text body clean. On fly leaf page is a library slip. Book block clean. Spine intact. Overall a excellent and neat copy. Although a great deal of reliance has been placed on lengthy quotes, which some readers may find hard work, I can see their importance and the reason for including them. Whar has been achieved is something quite impressive - a forensic examination of crimes and events from past times, their connections with present day. Interviewing of the author's own experiences, stories and opinions enhances the history that read well, is quite compelling and reflects long and extensive research. Particularly impressive in the way the author tackled Hornet Bank and Cullin-la-ringo. The outcome is a superlative job of investigation the reasons for those two events and the repercussions from them. What has been achieved is something that academic researchers have not done - a clear and accurate, detailed exposition that deserves to be on the national stage and read by the wider audience.
