Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Quantum well devices have been the objects of intensive research during the last two decades. Some of the devices have matured into commercially useful products and form part of modern electronic circuits. Some others require further dev- opment, but have the promise of being useful commercially in the near future. Study of the devices is, therefore, gradually becoming compulsory for electronics specialists. The functioning of the devices, however, involve aspects of physics which are not dealt with in the available text books on the physics of semicond- tor devices. There is, therefore, a need for a book to cover all these aspects at an introductory level. The present book has been written with the aim of meeting this need. In fact, the book grew out of introductory lectures given by the author to graduate students and researchers interested in this rapidly developing area of electron devices. The book covers the subjects of heterostructure growth techniques, band-offset theory and experiments, electron states, electron-photon interaction and related phenomena, electron transport and the operation of electronic, opto-electronic and photonic quantum well devices. The theory as well as the practical aspects of the devices are discussed at length. The aim of the book is to provide a comprehensive treatment of the physics underlying the various devices. A reader after going through the book should find himself equipped to deal with all kinds of quantum well devices. 312 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Discovery of new transport phenomena and invention of electron devices through exploitation of these phenomena have caused a great deal of interest in the properties of compound semiconductors in recent years. Extensive re search has been devoted to the accumulation of experimental results, par ticularly about the artificially synthesised compounds. Significant ad vances have also been made in the improvement of the related theory so that the values of the various transport coefficients may be calculated with suf ficient accuracy by taking into account all the complexities of energy band structure and electron scattering mechanisms. Knowledge about these deve lopments may, however, be gathered only from original research contributions, scattered in scientific journals and conference proceedings. Review articles have been published from time to time, but they deal with one particular material or a particular phenomenon and are written at an advanced level. Available text books on semiconductor physics, do not cover the subject in any detail since many of them were written decades ago. There is, there fore, a definite need for a book, giving a comprehensive account of electron transport in compound semiconductors and covering the introductory material as well as the current work. The present book is an attempt to fill this gap in the literature. The first chapter briefly reviews the history of the developement of compound semiconductors and their applications. It is also an introduction to the contents of the book. 484 pp. Englisch.

Book First Edition
1st Edition. Hardbound small 4to (about 10 inches tall) 227 pages. Index. Description: Figure illustrations. From the publisher's blurb: ''The aim of this monograph is to provide a text on the subject suitable for graduate students and new entrants to the field. The monograph begins with a review of the basic concepts associated with the theory of electrical transport in semiconductors, with emphasis on the lattice vibrations and the matrix elements for the collision processes. This is followed by a detailed discussion of the methods of solution of the Boltzmann equation and of the development of expressions for the transport of coefficients using the relaxation time approximation. The mathematical steps involved in the derivation of the formulae for the relaxation time corresponding to various collision processes are explained, while the following chapters are devoted to the methods for the determination of semiconductor constants related to carrier mobility and the interpretation of the experimental results. The object is to explain how the theory is applied for the evaluation o f the transport coefficients and on the elucidation of the collision processes.'' BINDING/CONDITION: dark plum colored cloth; a Very Good+ book, with a Fair dust jacket. ISBN: 0-08-016802-7.
