Prepared on behalf of the Trustees of Mrs Honyman Gillespie of Torbanehill with a Bibliography of the Ontological Argument by E.Lloyd Morrow M.A. Printed on fine india paper. Contents include a sketch of the life of Mr Gilespie, Mrs Gillespie (His Widow) Mrs Gillespie's Trustees. Then follows a popular exposition of his book "The Argument, a Priori, for the being and the attributes of the Lord God, The Absolute One, and First Cause" The subject was born in 1808 in Glasgow the son of Richard Gillespie of South Woodside, Renfrewshire. He married Elizabeth Honyman, daughter of Sir Richard Bempde Johnstone Honyman, Bart of Armadale and Graemsay, and heiress of entail of the estate of Torbanehill, Linlithgowshire. She succeeded to the estate in 1842. A scarce book which would not only have been expensive to produce but would likely have had a very limited print run. At the time of listing the only copies when can find are held by National and University Libraries. VG ( Book- Moderate rubbing to leather at head and tail of spine. A little light foxing/ dust soiling to the heavier laid paper of the two illustrations. No previous owner name or inscrp. PLease see our images of the actual item offered for sale.
