Condition: As New. Eliot a Virginia Woolf.

Published by Letter dated 'Chilswell Dec' The photograph engraved by Emery Walker, 1924
Nicely printed on laid paper, on sheet folded to make a bifolium, with the facsimile of the letter on the reverse of the first leaf, and the photograph of Bridges facing it on the recto of the second. As he is unable 'to write personal thanks to each of the many friends who contributed to honour my 80th birthday by their lovely gift', he asks them to accept the photograph 'as a memento'. 'Apart fr. the beauty & excellence & great value of Mr Arnold Dolmetsch's instrument there is no sort of gift that I shd have preferred & it will add its delicate pleasures to whatever days may yet be in store for me. The recognitn of my love for 17th century music & your respect for my tenancy of the Poet Laureateship are deeply appreciated by me.' In fair condition, lightly-aged and creased. Excessively scarce: no copy at the British Library, and the only copy on COPAC at the Bodleian. See Image.

First Edition Signed
Green cloth, titled in black. 86 pp. Second edition. Translated from the Russian by D. H. Lawrence (whose name was left off the first edition of 1922, corrected by an errata sheet), S. S. Koteliansky & Leonard Woolf. The first edition consisted of 1000 copies, the second of 1200. This copy, which was purchased for £250 by its previous owner, is enhanced by a gift inscription from Samuel Solomonovich "Kot" Koteliansky to Lady Ottoline Morrell in blue ink on the half title, "Ottoline / with affectionate admiration / Kot / I.III.34. Minor spotting on boards, horizontal crease on spine, else a very good copy without the dust jacket. Lady Ottoline Morrell was an aristocrat and society maven closely associated with the Bloomsbury Group and was friend and patron to many of its members, which included Virginia Woolf, Duncan Grant, Dora Carrington, Lytton Strachey, T. S. Eliot, D. H. Lawrence, Aldous Huxley, among many others. The last two, Lawrence and Huxley, repaid her affection by publishing books, Women in Love and Crome Yellow, which presented a thinly veiled portrait of her and life at her home in unflattering terms. S. S. Koteliansky was a translator and acted as friend and supporter to many of the most influential British writers of the early 20th century. WOOLMER 19 (Second edition note).
