Cbl. med. Wiss., 2/39. - Berlin, August Hirschwald, 10. September, 1864, 8°, pp.609-624, Rückenbroschur. Erstdruck!

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. FIRST EDITION. Small 4 to. Contemp. half cloth with marbled boards. xii, 583 pp. Mounted photogravure frontisportrait. Uniformly browned due to poor quality paper, owner's rubberstamp in a number of places (not title page); a good to very good copy. G-M 692 (reprinted here). These collected papers of Moritz Traube(1826-94) constitute a valuable volume in the history of biochemistry and physiological chemistry. Posthumously published, the collected papers of this student of Liebig contain Traube's main discoveries: ".oxygen-carrying ferments, or as they are now called, enzymes (1858); semipermeable membranes (1867); and artificial models of the cell (1875). Traube's most interesting studies were on the source of the energy for muscle contraction, on the nature of the action of ferments, and on the formation of precipitation membranes. .Traube's discovery of the semipermeable membrane provided the basis for Pfeffer's measurement of osmotic pressure and for van't Hoff's far-reaching theoretical interpretation of osmosis." (D.S.B.). Partington IV:193, 307, 652-53. See: J.S. Fruton, 'Molecules and life', 1972 - many citations. Waller 9659.

- Exlibris.
