Horizontal mailing fold else a very good copy. Printed on blue paper. Mailed to poet Jackson Mac Low with his name and address handwritten on the rear cover. Small tears and rips to edges. All issues of this magazine are truly uncommon. Not listed in Clay & Phillips.

Condition: Very Good+. 1st Edition. Quarto. The rare first - and apparently only - issue of Blue Beat, a mimeographed Beat poetry magazine from New York's Lower East Side. Printed on the press of Yowl, another New York poetry magazine, at which editors George Montgomery and Erik Kiviat were also involved. This first issue is one of just 207 printed and is in exquisite condition. Featured poets, some of whom were already known in 1964, include Montgomery and Kiviat, Margo Love, Ray Bremser, Jim Brody, Jerry Greenberg, Alex Wiener (also the cover artist) and many more. Rare in commerce, with more than 10% of the initial run being held institutionally (OCLC) 41pp, recto only, plus two pages of notes, inccluding the rear wrap. .85 cover price. Mild age toning to edges. Staple bound.
