First Edition
Hardcover first edition - First printing. Essays on some aspects of her life as a white woman, married to a black man and raising interracial children. Although written more than 20 years ago, the beginning of the preface could have come from today's news, as Reddy realizes that her son, who is playing a game of hide-and-seek, is now old enough and tall enough to be mistaken for "the urban predator of television-fueled nightmares, ready to spring from the bushes." She realizes she has waited too long to warn him - that he has to keep his hands out of his pockets when in stores, how to talk to the police when they stop him on his bicycle, etc. A very personal and deeply felt book. Bibliography, index. xvi, 193 pp. Fine in fine dust jacket (a new copy.).

First Edition
First Edition. From mystery author Sue GraftonÕs private research library on crime that she used as she wrote her novels. With the Sue Grafton estate bookplate on the front pastedown, and with a letter of authentication from Grafton's husband. 172 pages. Sue Grafton is mentioned throughout the book as noted in the index. Fine copy in a near fine dust jacket with some minor sunning at the spine. Sue Grafton (1940 - 2017) is best known as the author of the Ôalphabet seriesÕ which began with A Is for Alibi (1982) featuring private investigator Kinsey Millhone in the fictional city of Santa Teresa, CA - roughly modeled after Santa Barbara, CA where she made her home. Sadly, she did not live long enough to publish the last letter of the alphabet, with her final work being Y Is for Yesterday (2017). The daughter of detective novelist C.W. Grafton, she said the strongest influence on her crime novels was Ross Macdonald. Before her success with this series, she wrote screenplays for television movies.
