This biography tells much about the establishment and development of the NZ public health service, which came to be regarded as a world leader. The author began her nursing training in 1910 at Christchurch and her subsequent career was influential in the the field of nurse training and in public health. She became the NZ director of nursing and was also closely involved in international nurse training during the inter-war years and after WWII. She was sent to Hawkes Bay to organise care for the injured in the 1931 earthquake and involved in making adjustments to the health service to meet changed priorities during WWII. In telling her own story Many Lambie also incorporates the history of NZ public health and is progression to the time of her retirement in 1950. One of the few early bios of NZ public health nursing. 189 pages, frontis and 12 b/w plates. Red hard covers with gilt spine titles VG+, neatly inked name/address top FFEP, text block otherwise excellent. Pictorial DJ VG with few chips, tiny tears top edges. Newspaper review of book (1956) pinned to DJ front flap.
