In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Illustrated with a frontispiece, a further 10 plates and numerous illustrations accompanying the text. Lacking the title page but otherwise complete. The Badminton Library of Sports and Pastimes was a series of sporting books, published by Longmans, Green & Co. between 1885 and 1902, and edited by Henry Somerset, 8th Duke of Beaufort (1824 1899). This series aimed to cover all major sports and pastimes. This volume celebrates billiards with chapters on the history of the sport and on the different aspects of playing the game. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally smart, though with some shelf wear to the extremities, boards and joints. Lacking title page. Binding is strained between pages 34 and 110; otherwise firmly bound. Pages are clean but with a scattering of spots throughout. Good. book.

An early edition of this volume on Billiards, with frontispiece, ten plates, and numerous in text illustrations, collated and complete. Published between 1885 and 1902, the Badminton Library of Sports and Pastimes was a series of sporting books published by Longmans, Green & Co. The series aimed to cover all major sports, and this volume offers the rules and history of the billiards, alongside chapters on breaking and different strokes. In the publisher's original brown cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, more so to the joints and the edges of the volume. Rubbed to the spine, with some light bumping to the head, and a little more to the tail. Internally, generally firmly bound, although pages 135 to 139 are disbound, but present. Rather foxed to the front and rear of the volume, as well as around the aforementioned disbound pages. Otherwise, pages are just lightly foxed. Good. book.

To recognise excellence in more bureaucratic endeavours, Vanier initiated in 1962 the Vanier Medal of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada and, in 1967, the Vanier Awards for Outstanding Young Canadians, awarded to deserving individuals in the Canadian Junior Chamber of Commerce. Vanier and his wife, Pauline were both nominated to be beatified in the Catholic Church because of their piety and love for humanity.Julia Verlyn "Judy" Lamarsh (1924-1980) was a Canadian politician, lawyer, author and broadcaster. She was born in Chatham, Ontario, and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario. In 1963, she was only the second woman to ever serve as a federal Cabinet Minister. Under Prime Minister Lester Pearson's minority governments of the middle and late 1960s, she helped push through the legislation that created the Canada Pension Plan and Medicare. As Secretary of State, she was in charge of Canada's Centennial celebrations in 1967. After leaving politics in 1968, she wrote three books, and had her own radio show on CBC Radio. She was stricken with pancreatic cancer in 1979 and was given the Order of Canada at her hospital bed. She died a few days short of the 20th anniversary of her first political election victory, in 1980.Hon. Louis Joseph Lucien Cardin (1919-1988) was a Canadian lawyer, judge, and politician. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada from July 1965 to 3 April 1967 succeeded by Pierre Trudeau. Cardin was the first Canadian politician to bring the public's attention to the Gerda Munsinger affair.
