Blatt. Cutout aus einem Buch oder Album von Nila Magidoff mit schwarzen Edding signiert mit eigenhändigem Zusatz "For Betty Johns With best wishes" /// Autogramm Autograph signiert signed signee /// "The main source of information about Mrs. Magidoff's biography is her own autobiographical book "The Nile" and her retellings. The information provided in it cannot be verified and confirmed. Nila was born in the village of Devinishki in Belarus Russia. In 1925 she married Karl Galin (Karl Gahlin or Karel Gahlen). For two years she worked in Kyrgyzstan as a teacher, then she was hired on a Soviet merchant ship as a sailor, and traveled the world. During her absence, Galin "became the leader of the opposition movement against Stalin." Nila, following her husband, became an activist of the anti-Stalinist underground. She and her husband were arrested and sent to Siberia. Neela spent five years in political prison; and her husband died in the camp. After leaving the camp, Neela allegedly "became a successful reporter in Moscow for a propaganda publication in a foreign language, often winning competition with other publications. Once she secretly entered the Kremlin, pretending to be a musician, to report on the funeral of a high-ranking official. In 1937 she married R. Magidoff . She entered the United States on October 20, 1941 as a "non quota alien". In the spring of 1941, Soviet resident Hayk Hovakimyan was arrested. A month after the start of the war, on July 23, 1941, he was released as a result of a deal: Ovakimyan was exchanged for six Americans (in fact, only three US citizens arrested in the territory of Poland occupied by the Red Army were returned). Neela Magidoff came to the United States as one of six exchanged . Soon Nila began lecturing on behalf of the Society for Aid to Russia in the War, "which she did for three years, collecting donations. She was honored for selling more US war bonds than any other speaker. After the war, Nila returned to the USSR, having already received American citizenship. After her expulsion in April 1948, she came to the USSR at least twice, in 1958 and 1967. The marriage was childless." Neonila Ivanovna ?Nila?
