Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Original publisher's black cloth binding with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. All edges gilt. 5" x 7." 866 pages, complete. Many black and white illustrations, complete. Twenty-six additional pages of advertisements for other books on similar topics in the back. Former owner's inscription on front free endpaper handwritten in green ink: "With compliments to my friend J. Gilbert, H. D. Sorvik." Pages and covers are very clean and intact. Binding is tight. One of the authors of this book, Nehemiah Hawkins (1833-1928), was an American inventor, author, and publisher. He wrote many of the Audel's Guides published by Theodore Audel & Company. The Audel's Guides series covered engineering, mathematics, and the like. Hawkins sometimes wrote under the pen name of William Rogers or Theodore Audel.
