Book Signed
Reprint, stapled. Condition: Gut. pp. 3-25. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of the ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - With dedication by the author. - Lightly bumped, author's name handwritten on cover, 1 typogr. corr., otherwise clean. - From the text: The older generation of Jews from Germany has experienced an historical paradox of extreme character. The period of the Weimar Republic had seen extensive and efficient activities of Jewish politicians, dramatists, artists and scholars in their Gentile environment to which there is no completely equivalent parallel in our history. The opposition against a regime that had made this increased participation of the outsider possible led up to a catastrophe more comprehensive and more cruel than anything in the long sequence of events recorded by Graetz as the martyrology of our people. A social revolution destroyed in its seemingly invincible progress all presuppositions of Jewish existence in Germany; every trace of reasonable judgment was more and more extinguished by the power of myth. Such observations recalled in many Jewish minds the persecutions of the Middle Ages. Moreover, writers in the service of the ruling party, including some of academic prominence, put forward the ancient conflict between Synagogue and Church as a model, in order to justify contemporary brutality by an eternal necessity. - Wikipedia: Hans Liebeschuetz (German: Liebeschütz; 3 December 1893 28 October 1978) was a medieval historian. He is best known for his study of John of Salisbury. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.
