cloth, top edge stained red. Leipzig Book Fair (illustrator). large 12mo. cloth, top edge stained red. 3-155, (3) pages. "Kantate" was traditionally the close of the Leipzig Book Fair, the day on which many booksellers paid bills, settled accounts, and often placed orders. After this was finished, the remainder of the day was a holiday (for those still inclined to celebrate). By the end of the 19th century, Kantate was not so important in the business sense, but the Kantate holiday had become a formal festivity, with a dinner attended by book trade people and diverse dignitaries, and accompanied by entertainment. This anthology of 18 articles by booksellers, librarians, publishers and others contains personal reminiscences, and remarks on the history of bookselling and collecting, and on current (1920's) bookselling. With 6 drawings. Irregularly faded, lightly soiled.
