Soft Covers. Condition: VG. No Jacket. Author (illustrator). 1st. Lea McCarty wrote the text to accompany his portraits of 14 noted gunfighters of the Old West, one woman, Calamity Jane among them. While some of the gunfighters are well known --- Jesse James, Wild Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp, and Billy the Kid --- less familiar names appear in the author's selction of Western "nobility". While some died comparatively young others survived well after the gunfighter days were past, notably Wyatt Earp who died in 1929 aged 81 and one of hos deputies, AM King, wrote the forward to the book recalling that. "the cold blue stare of a killer was unmistakable. About 95 per cent of the gununslingers were blue-eyed." A full page of text on each gunfighter is followed by a full page colour painting. At the back King also provides an account of the Gunfight at OK Corral, illustrated with another McCarty painting. The last page depicts nine of the pistol types used by the gunfighters. 44 pages. Orange card covers with front colour painting VG with lightly bumped corners, name/address top corner inside cover, text pages VG+.
