Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Bourgeois, Louise (illustrator). First Edition. 144pp, 86 illustrations, including 29 full-colour plates. Book in perfect condition apart from small gold sticker with previous owners' names on, on first page, and faint yellowing to page edges. Black boards have blue gilt lettering on front and spine. Dust jacket with full-colour reproduction of 'Untitled (with Foot) 1989), has a few marks, scorings but generally excellent condition. The book is the catalogue of a touring exhibition of Bourgeois's sculptures and drawings. Trained in her native France, during the height of modernism, she came to New York in 1938 where she was exposed to surrealism and abstraction. Her own work is totally individual, and the book reflects her work during the 1980's, a period of unprecendented accomplishment and a culmination of her creative pursuits of over 40 years. Three in-depth essays are provided by the authors, all specialists in their fields, and the book includes a chronology, selected bibliography and an index. This is a heavy book and may need extra postage, especially outside the UK.
