Based on Elizabeth Kata's 1961 novel "Be Ready With Bells and Drums" Rose-Ann D'Arcey (Shelley Winters) is blind and lives with her abusive mother and alcoholic father in a small apartment. She becomes friends with Gordon Ralfe (Sidney Poitier), who wishes to help her out of her difficult and abusive situation. Rose-Ann falls in Love with Gorgon, but their relationship is further complicated due to the racism that Gordon faces as a black man. Shelley Winters won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and the film was nominated for four others. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine.
