Critical study of the complete creative history of surrealist art, by artist in the movement from 1932 to 1952; covering all techniques such as collage, fumage, grattage, papiers déchirés, decalcomania, rayograms, objets trouvés, exquisite corpses, etc. 384pp with numerous illustrations of which 36 in colour, and index. Hardback / hard cover: black cloth, backstrip titled in white, front cover titled on three paper inlays - in black & white on red paper, in white on green, and in red on yellow. Top- & fore-edges of text-block a little toned, top edge also with minor dust-coloured blemish of width up to ½" (1.3cm) and length 1½" (4cm). The whole slightly bowed. VERY GOOD copy in VERY GOOD unclipped dust jacket with trompe l'oeil design after a 1942 painting by the author, the front panel with three 'doors' that when opened reveal front cover title sections; original clear & colourless acetate overwrapper missing largish segment shared by rear panel and flap. (Heavy item, overseas shipping at cost.).
