Cloth binding is elaborately decorated with gilt lettering, rules & illustrations on the front cover and the spine. All edges of the book block gilt. Condition: front cover is detached; binding worn & faded with minor fraying to edges; corners bumped. Different paper stocks were used for the pages & consequently, some of the pages are age-toned. Else a good copy. Pages: 839 plus publisher's catalogue.

Additionally, the front board is decorated with a large blind stamped illustration of a lyre. Very light soiling to boards. Textblock is toned. Sporadic closed tears throughout have been unprofessionally backed with tape. Gutter also occasionally reinforced with tape. Heavily illustrated with elaborate wood engravings by Gustave Doré.

Very good condition, clean tight sound square, no bookplate, inscription or ownership marks of any kind, the very lightest of sporadic fosing to endpapers not intruding in the least, crisp edges. Bound in bright gilt embossed blue cloth boards. Housed and protected in original unclipped, Dore illustrated dustwrapper with closed tear 1 else very good condition. Huge and heavy volume, may incur additional postage possibly prohibitive overseas. A great addition to the library of reader and scholar alike.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Thick 4to hardcover volume in green gold embossed cloth boards. Spine and boards tight and complete with minimal wear. A little bumping to top corners. At some point the front endpaper and portrait of La Fontaine came loose and were glued to the front board a little off kilter. Other than that the contents are very clean and tight with no water marks or foxing. A nice solid copy with tons of Dore illustrations full page. 733 pages total.1880's.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. ; Green cloth cover with gilt and black stamped design is frayed at corners and spine caps with general wear and soiling. Boards and spine are straight. Backstrip has been somewhat crudely reglued with abrasions from old tape repairs to end sheets and paste downs. Frontispiece protected by tissue. 2" old tape repair to tile page. Pages are toned with modest sparse thumbing but overall quite clean and very good. Profusely illustrated in b&w.

Illustrated throughout with in-text and full-page woodcuts by Gustave Doré (all included in the pagination). Original publisher's pictorial cloth stamped in gilt and black. 28.5 x 22.5 cm. Very good. Short tears to spine ends and head of rear joint; corners worn. The hinges are partially cracked and tender, and the text block has dropped, but both covers are holding fairly well for such a large and heavy volume. The leaves are a trifle age-toned but, aside from a few minor traces of marginal soiling, the volume is clean throughout. A bright and attractive copy. Later edition in a beautiful example of publisher's cloth.
