XX [From the inner flaps] Henry Hutto's first book, God of Quasars and other Poems (1973), is devoted to a proclamation of the very essence of his deep Christian faith. Because of its deeply religious nature, God of Quasars only hints at Henry's humorous, keen and cleanly cynical awareness of this world. He had been a news reporter for many years before he became a minister; then he worked and prayed among people who knew the world but needed to hear his message. He always contemplated God, but he knew the priests and victims of Mammon. So this book tells (through the collected writings that he left) of God and Mammon and of much that is in between, through subjects diverse and universal, from politics to baseball; from love of God's beauty to scorn for His people's hypocrisy; from humor [in?] the follies of mankind to intense personal love; from nostalgia for earlier blessings to chagrin when his health forced him from his ministry; from weariness of life on earth to faith in immortality. XX Henry Hubert Hutto, who holds both a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri and a Master of Divinity degree from the Virginia Theological Seminary, gave up a successful career as a newspaper reporter and editor to train for the ministry. After his ordination as priest in the Protestant Episcopal church, he served in Wyoming, Nevada and California. His first poem was written while he was an undergraduate and published in The Churchman. Subsequently, his verse has been widely published in the United States, Canada and India. Henry lived only three years after the above paragraph was written for his God of Quasars (Naylor, 1974). Although he was no longer actively a priest, he continued to revere his church. His poetic inspiration continued, and many of these poems were written during those last years.
