La longue introduction comprend: un Avertissement de l'Editeur (ppI-XV), un Discours Préliminaire sur la Vie et les Ouvrages d'Olivier Basselin par Augustin Asselin (pp. XVII-XXX) et un Appendice au Discours préliminaire (concernant Jean Le Houx).A propos de l'auteur Olivier BASSELIN (1403-1470), beaucoup de zones d'ombre subsistent. On sait qu'il vécut à VIRE, en Normandie, et que son oeuvre tourne autour d'un thème principal: le boire, le cidre. Ses vers témoignent d'un vrai tempérament de poète. Exemple: "Hélas! Que fait un povre yvrongne?/Il se couche et n'occit personne, / ou bien il dict propos joyeulx./ Il ne songe point en uzure,/ et ne faict à personne injure,/ Beuveur d'eau peut-il faire mieulx?"Notre exemplaire est en TRES BON ETAT.
