Im Gegensatz zu Heimatdichtern wie Gorch Fock, dessen extrem nationalistische Tonlage zu fragwürdigem Ruhm unter den Nazis führte, zeichnet sich Lottmanns Werk durch Werte wie Freiheit und Toleranz aus.
