First Hardcover Edition. Octavo. 609 pages map. One of the few masterpieces of science fiction. It is no wonder that Arthur C. Clarke said: "I know nothing comparable to it except The Lord of the Rings. In the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction "A novel of extraordinary complexity. The work of a speculative intellect with few rivals in modern SF." The foreword by Hari Kunzru gives insight on the opening pages (ix-xii) with the words: "In 1959, if you were walking the sand dunes near Florence, Oregon, you might have encountered a burly, bearded extrovert, striding about in army surplus clothing. Frank Herbert, a freelance writer with a feeling for ecology, was researching an article for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He struggled with near poverty as he neared age 40 and offered Dune to 20 publishing houses all of which rejected it. It was only Chilton that accepted, which has become one of the greatest of science fiction works. A near fine copy bound in purple paper covered boards, illustrated on the blue fore-edge in orange, one slight bumped corner, in fine unclipped pictorial dust jacket lettered and decorated in white and copper.
Paperback. Condition: Fair. 16 book set. **In stock** NO BOX. Some wear. Mismatched set, uniform book size.
