Softback 196 pages Published Price £12.99 The third concluding volume of German aerial observer Haupt Heydemarckâs Great War flying memoirs sees him transferred from the familiar skies over the Western Front, to the Macedonian theatre of war in the Balkans. Heydemarck made the move after the death of his long term pilot partner âTakeâ Engemann in 1916. Promoted to command a forward Staffel (squadron) Heydemarckâs writing loses none of its freshness. His account of his adventures flying against the British with inferior aircraft is spiced with admiring anecdotes about his own Commandeer - air ace Rudolf von Eschwege. Like his previous two volumes, the book is liberally illustrated with photographs taken by Heydemarck as part of his combat duties.
